Every Human You Meet – December 1 2019

As long as you have a human brain and a human body, you cannot be totally omniscient. The mind expands to a great extent but still, there are limitations. So, the best attitude to take is that every human being you meet is in some way a Guru to you. For that, you need to keep your mind open.

In other words, I do not have to be a know-it-all. And everyone I meet has something to teach me, even if it’s how not to do something. Or how I might look when I withhold love.

When I stop to think about it for a moment, it amazes me that each of us has a completely different set of eyes and histories and circumstances that we’re viewing life through; and yet somehow we all continue to get along, to one degree or another. The incidence of violence in our world is far surpassed by the incidence of love. It’s just not nearly as newsworthy, so it seems to be lacking. It’s up to me to remember the truth of this for myself, and for those I meet who may need help remembering it for themselves.

Today I will let myself love another enough that I become open to imagining what the world might look like through her eyes, and I will offer compassion to myself and to the other when it seems impossible to love.
