01 Dec Giving to Receive – December 1 2020
The more something is done only for oneself, I can say it is wrong. The more something is done for others and of that a little bit is for oneself, then I can say it is the right way. That is the only distinction I can make between right and wrong.
And in the twelve step programs, they say, “Our real purpose is to fit ourselves to be of maximum service to God and the people about us.”
The more our actions are about serving someone other than ourselves, the easier our lives become. When we are of service, we are more able to take advantage of the help of a power greater than ourselves. Life itself is about supporting itself. When I make that my job as well, then life lifts me up as if I am a part of it—which of course I am.
Life doesn’t take. Life only gives. When I give, rather than take, I’m identifying with life. And life notices.
Today I will walk into every situation as if I have something to offer, rather than as if I have something I need to get.
