Sai Baba of Shirdi would say ‘Allah Malik Hai,’ or ‘Ram, Ram’ when people went to him with their problems. No one could say whether he was a Muslim, Hindu, or a Christian. His basic message was to unite, to bring people together, because Allah and Ram to Him were the same, though we call God by different names.
Sri M
When Sri M walked the length of India in 2015-16, his entire message to the people he encountered was “God is! Please stop fighting about whose God is ‘right.’ God is infinite, unbounded, eternal. It is not possible to possess God in one small idea. Awaken to this Truth and love your fellows no matter in what form they might worship the divine.” The same as the message of Sai Baba of Shirdi above.
When Adele and I travelled with him recently into the Himalayas, visiting the places where he studied with his own teacher, Sri M’s message was the same. “God is. And yes, God is perhaps more apparent here in the shadow of these massive mountains. But God is also in Haridwar and Los Angeles and in your hospital room in Delhi. Look for God, and he is there. But you must look.”
God is. My God. Your God. Our God. Even if one of us doesn’t believe in God.
Today I will assume the presence of an infinite consciousness, greater than my own, of which my own consciousness is a part. And I will call upon this greater consciousness as my guide, knowing it is your guide as well, regardless of what we may call Her.
