Every loving or compassionate thought outweighs many thousands of negative thoughts held by others. We change the world not by what we say or do but as a consequence of what we have become. Thus, every spiritual aspirant serves the world.

The Eye of the I: From Which Nothing Is Hidden
As we watch our country and its political system continue to divide itself into the Reds vs. the Blues, it’s the easiest thing in the world to live in our own reactive thoughts of condemnation of ‘other.’ But those people ‘on the other side’, wrong as they may be from our own perspective, are simply living out their own version of what they think will keep them safe. And in spite of the vitriol, they, too, are human. They, too, are an expression of the divine. And they, too, are worthy of our compassion and love.
If we see ourselves as spiritual aspirants, this must be our job. To love, even when we are angry. To make the effort to move away from our cascading negative thoughts and mood and to the place of compassion. To see past the clamoring of the ego in ourself and in our fellows in order to know ourselves as the divine truth of what we are.
And if we can’t do that, we at least can know it as a possibility. Someday. For each of us.
Today I will notice when anger fires within my body, when negative thoughts arise – about myself or others – and I will stop and ask myself, is this a proper use of my time on this planet? Who might I better serve the world?
